One month to go
I’ve had a few people ask me recently “what’s next?” and “would you ever climb Everest again?”
The answer is yes and in just four weeks I’ll be heading to Kathmandu to begin the expedition to Everest. However, this time via the Northeast Ridge or “North side” route of the mountain. The North side of the mountain is in Tibet, whereas the South side is in Nepal.
I’ve spent the last 12 weeks on a strict training program leading specifically into this climb.
My programming is all done by Kev Toonen, my coach and the founder of Strength-Elite. Training is hard as usual but this time far more structured and specific than ever before. I always ask myself prior to each major climb if I’m doing everything I need to be or if I need to add, take away or change something. I reflect on the previous climbs and think about what worked and maybe what didn’t so I can improve and cut away anything not useful.
I felt I had hit a plateau with my training and climbing briefly and didn’t really know how to get out of that as I had never experienced that before. I did my research before getting onto Kev and Strength-Elite. It’s good to have a specific training program for my specific abilities and goals. My strength has doubled over the course of this program.
I’m incredibly excited now to have the opportunity to climb on such an amazing mountain again and to experience Tibet and the North side. I’ll be posting updates where and when possible with the priority being the focus on the climb of course. It will be a tough climb and preparation has been going well. This has firmly been on my mind for a good 6 months now.
In the coming weeks I’ll be going through all gear to be set for the two months of living and climbing on the mountain. I’ll also be doing a vlog going through all the gear and its purpose. All in all I am feeling good and strong and I cannot wait to be back doing what I love.
I will update as the climb goes on via Satellite phone where and when I can.
Besides my own personal climbing goals, I will be leading expeditions in the near future and those packages will be released here on the website in a week or so. The Summit Club will have expeditions and treks available for all skill, ambition and experience levels. Locations will include the Seven Summits and even more packages ranging from Tibet, Russia, Nepal, South America, Antarctica, Australia and more. Each expedition will be guided by me and accompanied by trusted local guides and support that I know personally in each location.
